Travel agency website design: a planning guide for Indian agents

Good travel agency website design in India comes down to three things: package pages that answer price, dates and inclusions on a phone, a WhatsApp enquiry that reaches you in one tap, and proof that you are a real, reachable agency. A small agency can launch that for ₹8,000 to ₹16,000, and a portal with search and online booking costs around ₹45,000. Plan the pages and the content first, then pick the designer.

Who this guide is for

This guide is for travel agents, tour operators and small DMCs in India who are about to get a website made, or who want to replace one that brings no enquiries. It is a planning document. It tells you what to decide before you speak to any designer, so that the quotes you collect can be compared and the site you get actually sells trips.

If you only want a price, our travel agency website cost guide goes deeper on market rates. If you have already decided and want us to build it, the travel agency website design service page has the plans and the process. This post sits in between: how to think about the design so you buy the right thing.

Start with the traveller, not the homepage

Most agency owners start by describing the homepage they want: a big slider, a logo, maybe a video. The traveller rarely sees the homepage first. They land on a package page from Google, from an Instagram link or from a WhatsApp forward, and they decide in under a minute whether to message you.

So the first design question is: when someone opens your Kashmir or Dubai package on a phone, what do they need to see before they are willing to ask for a quote? In our experience building travel sites, the answer is almost always the same short list.

  • A starting price, with the basis stated (per person, twin sharing, ex Ahmedabad or land only).
  • The number of nights and the route, in one line.
  • Departure dates or the months the package runs.
  • What is included and what is not, as two short lists.
  • Hotel category or named hotels, and the meal plan.
  • A WhatsApp button that opens a message with the package name already filled in.

The pages a travel agency website actually needs

A small agency does not need forty pages. It needs a clear set that covers how travellers search and what they ask before they book. Here is the structure we start from and then adjust to the agency.

PageWhy it existsMust include
HomeRoutes visitors to the right trip fastTop destinations, featured packages, WhatsApp, trust signals
Destination pagesRank for searches like Kerala tour packageAll packages for that place, best months, a short intro
Package pagesWhere the enquiry happensPrice basis, itinerary by day, inclusions, exclusions, dates
AboutProves you are a real businessOffice address, team, years in business, registrations you actually hold
ContactRemoves frictionPhone, WhatsApp, map, office hours
Reviews or gallerySocial proofReal Google reviews or real traveller photos only
Terms and privacyTrust and payment gateway approvalCancellation policy, refund terms, data use

Package page design is where bookings are won

If your budget only allows you to get one thing right, get the package page right. We have written a full breakdown in tour package page design, but the short version follows.

Put the price and the WhatsApp button in the first screen on a phone. Write the itinerary day by day with real place names, because a traveller comparing two agencies picks the one that looks like it has actually run the trip. Show hotel names or at least categories. Keep inclusions and exclusions as lists, never as a paragraph. Add a short section for the questions you are tired of answering on the phone: visa, child pricing, Jain or vegetarian food, airport transfers.

Design matters here in a practical sense: readable type at phone size, buttons large enough for a thumb, photos that load quickly, and no pop-up covering the price. A beautiful layout that hides the price below three screens of photos loses to a plain page that answers the question.

Make the enquiry path one tap long

Indian travellers enquire on WhatsApp far more than by email. Every package page should have a WhatsApp button that opens a chat with a prefilled message such as the package name and travel month, so your first reply can be a real answer instead of asking what they are looking for.

Keep a short form as a backup for people who prefer it, and send that form to your WhatsApp or email instantly. Our guide to WhatsApp booking on a travel website covers the setup in detail.

We measured how common this is. In our study of Indian travel agency websites, only about a third of the reachable homepages we checked had any WhatsApp link at all. That is an easy gap to close, and closing it puts you ahead of most of the sites a traveller will compare you with.

Trust signals that are worth the space

A traveller sending an advance to an agency they found online is taking a risk. Your design should lower that risk with things they can check, not with adjectives.

  • Your office address with a Google Maps embed, and a photo of the office if you have one.
  • Your Google rating with a link to the reviews, so the visitor can read them on Google.
  • Association memberships you actually hold, such as IATO, TAAI or ADTOI, with the member number.
  • A named owner or team with real photos.
  • HTTPS on every page. A browser warning on a travel site ends the conversation.
  • Clear cancellation and refund terms linked in the footer.

What travel agency website design costs in India

Prices across the Indian market vary from a few thousand rupees for a template to several lakh for a portal with live flight and hotel inventory. These are our fixed prices, so you have a concrete reference point when you compare quotes.

PlanPriceWhat it covers
Basic₹8,000Up to 5 pages, mobile design, WhatsApp, call and Instagram buttons, enquiry form to WhatsApp, Google Maps, SSL
Premium₹12,000Everything in Basic plus your own admin panel to edit packages, prices and photos, an enquiries dashboard and basic SEO setup
Professional₹16,000Everything in Premium plus online payments to your bank, bookings around the clock, a reviews section, Google Business and Analytics
Custom / Advanced₹45,000A travel portal: package search with filters, itinerary builder with PDF export, online booking, team logins, enquiry CRM, multi-currency prices

Which plan fits which agency

All four plans include the first year of hosting, domain and maintenance free, then ₹4,000 a year. The full comparison is on the pricing page.

If you sell a handful of fixed packages and most enquiries come from Instagram, Basic is enough to start. If you change prices or add departures every few weeks, take Premium, because paying a designer for every price edit costs more than the difference within a year. Take Professional when you want travellers to pay a booking amount online. Consider the ₹45,000 travel portal only when you have dozens of packages and a team handling enquiries.

How to brief a designer so quotes are comparable

Two quotes for the same travel website can differ by five times, usually because each designer imagined a different site. Send every designer the same one page brief and the quotes become comparable.

  • Your agency name, city, and what you sell (domestic, international, pilgrimages, corporate, MICE).
  • The ten packages or destinations that bring most of your business.
  • Who updates prices and how often.
  • Whether you want online payments now or later.
  • Two or three websites you like, and one thing you like about each.
  • Your logo file, brand colours if any, and whether you have your own trip photos.
  • Your domain name, if you already own one, and who holds the login.

How to judge the designer, not just the price

Ask for live links to travel sites they have built, and open them on your own phone. Check that the package pages load quickly and the WhatsApp button works. Our case studies show the live travel sites we have built, with the brief and what was delivered, so you can test them yourself.

Ask who owns the domain, where the site is hosted, what the yearly renewal costs, and how quickly a price change gets made. If the answers are vague, the low quote will become expensive later. The best test is to see your own site before paying anything, which is why we build a free demo on your brand first.

Launch checklist

Before the site goes live, run through this list on a phone, not a laptop.

  • Every package page shows price basis, nights, dates, inclusions and exclusions.
  • The WhatsApp button opens the right number with a prefilled message.
  • The site loads over HTTPS and the http version redirects to it.
  • Pages have a mobile viewport and nothing scrolls sideways.
  • Photos are compressed, and the home page loads in a few seconds on 4G.
  • Each page has its own title and description for Google.
  • Google Business Profile links to the website.
  • Terms, privacy and cancellation policy are linked in the footer.
  • You have the admin login and the domain login in your own name.

Common design mistakes to avoid

We see the same problems again and again on Indian travel sites: sliders that push the content below the fold, prices hidden behind a call us button, stock photos of places the agency does not sell, and contact forms that email an inbox nobody checks. Our list of travel agency website mistakes covers twelve of them with fixes.

The thread through all of them is the same. Design for the traveller who is comparing three agencies on a phone during a lunch break, and every choice gets easier.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages does a travel agency website need?
A small agency can start with five: home, a packages or destinations page, one page per main package, about and contact. Add destination pages as you add packages, because those are the pages that rank for searches like Kerala tour package.
How much does travel agency website design cost in India?
With us it is ₹8,000 for Basic, ₹12,000 for Premium with an admin panel, ₹16,000 for Professional with online payments and ₹45,000 for a travel portal. The first year of hosting, domain and maintenance is free, then ₹4,000 a year.
Should a travel website show prices?
Yes, at least a starting price with the basis stated, such as per person on twin sharing. Travellers skip agencies that hide prices, and a stated price filters out enquiries that were never going to book.
Do I need online booking on day one?
Most small agencies do not. A WhatsApp enquiry with the package prefilled converts well for custom trips. Add online payment when you sell fixed departures or want a booking amount collected before you hold rooms.
How long does it take to build?
A template based Basic site is ready in three to five days. An original four to five page build takes seven to ten working days. Getting photos and package details from your side is usually the slowest part.
Can I see the design before I pay?
Yes. We build a working demo on your brand, usually in about five days, and send you the link to open on your phone. If it is not what you want, you owe nothing.

Want this applied to your own site?

Send us your business name on WhatsApp. We will build a working version of the site on your brand and send you the link, before anything is charged.
