What a small business in Ahmedabad actually needs from a website

A travel agency in Navrangpura, a tuition class in Maninagar, a saree shop in Ratanpole, a CA office in Prahlad Nagar: none of them need a portal. They need a site that shows up when someone in the city searches for what they sell, loads in under three seconds on a Jio connection, and turns that visit into a WhatsApp message or a phone call. Everything else is decoration. A good website designer in Ahmedabad will ask about these before quoting a price.

Where to find a website designer in Ahmedabad

Be careful with two common traps. First, a designer who registers the domain in their own name, which means you cannot move the site later without their cooperation. Insist that the domain sits in your own account. Second, hosting resold at ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 a year for a five page site. Seven questions to ask before you pay an advance

Every designer in the city will show you a nice portfolio. These questions separate the ones who will still be answering your calls next year.

• Can I see three live sites you built for businesses like mine, and can I call one of those owners?
• Will the domain and hosting be in my name? Can you send me the login details on launch day?
• What is the total first year cost, and what is the yearly cost after that, in writing?
• How long does a change like a new price or a new photo take, and what does it cost?
• Will the site score above 80 on Google PageSpeed on mobile? Can you show me a past site's score?
• Do you set up Google Business Profile and Search Console, or is that extra?
• What happens to the site if you stop doing this work? Can I hand the files to someone else?

Red flags that cost Ahmedabad businesses money every year

• Content written by you, or by nobody. If the designer expects you to write every page, ask for a sample of copy they have written for a similar business.
• Payment 100 percent in advance. A 50 percent advance and 50 percent on launch is normal in the city.

Then run the URL through PageSpeed Insights. A mobile score in the 40s means the site was built for the designer's laptop, not for your customers.
