DMC Website Design in India: What B2B Travel Buyers Look For
A DMC sells to agents and operators, not to holidaymakers, so the website has a completely different job. Here is what a B2B travel buyer checks before shortlisting a ground handler, and how to build a site that survives that check.
The visitor on a DMC site is not a traveller
A destination management company earns its money from other travel businesses. The person on your website is a product manager at a European operator, a purchasing executive at an OTA, or an agent in Dubai who has a family of six landing in Delhi next month. None of them want a hero video of a sunset. They want to know whether you can actually run the ground in the region they are selling, and whether sending you a client is a safe decision they can defend to their own boss.
That single difference changes the whole layout. A consumer travel site is built to create desire and then capture an impulse. A DMC site is built to pass an evaluation. The buyer is comparing you against three or four other ground handlers, usually in one browsing session, usually with a shortlist already half formed from a trade show or a referral. Your website either confirms what they were told about you or quietly removes you from the list.
If you are not sure which side of the line your business sits on, our comparison of a travel website vs a travel portal is a useful first read, because the booking engine question usually gets answered wrong in B2B.
What a trade buyer checks before shortlisting you
We have read enough B2B travel enquiries to see a consistent sequence. It takes an experienced buyer under two minutes, and they do it in roughly this order.
- Do you operate in the exact destination or circuit they need, and do you say so in plain words.
- Are you a registered company with an address, a registration number and named people.
- How long have you been operating, and who are you currently handling volume for.
- Can they see a sample itinerary that shows how you write and how you cost.
- How fast will you come back with a quote, and in which currency.
- Is there a human contact with a direct line, or only a generic form.
Destination pages carry more weight than the homepage
Most DMC sites in India bury the destinations in a dropdown or list them as chips on the homepage. That fails both the buyer and Google. A trade buyer searching for a Rajasthan ground handler or a Kerala DMC types the destination, not your company name, and they land on whichever page is specifically about that destination.
Give every region you genuinely handle its own page, with its own title and its own URL. On that page, write for the trade rather than the tourist. State what you own or control on the ground: your own vehicles or a contracted fleet, guides on your payroll or panel guides, contracted hotel inventory by category, permit handling, airport representatives, and a twenty four hour emergency number that a foreign operator can call when a coach breaks down at midnight.
Be honest about the edges. A page that says you handle Ladakh through a partner operator loses nothing, because a buyer will discover it anyway and will respect having been told. A page that implies direct operations you do not have is the fastest way to end a relationship after the first group.
Credentials, licence and insurance, written to be verified
Anonymity is the single biggest problem on Indian DMC websites. An overseas buying office is taking on real liability when it hands you clients, and its compliance process usually requires it to record who you are. If your site does not give them that in a copyable form, they email you for it, and that email becomes a delay you did not need.
Put a credentials block on the site where anyone can find it, ideally on an About page and again in the footer. The details that matter to a trade buyer are specific and boring, which is exactly why they work.
- Registered company name, entity type and the state where it is registered.
- GST number and, where relevant, the Ministry of Tourism recognition or IATA number.
- Association memberships such as IATO, TAAI or ADTOI, with the membership number.
- Year of incorporation and years of operating experience, stated separately if they differ.
- Professional indemnity or public liability cover, with the insurer named.
- Full office address with a map, plus named contacts and their direct numbers.
Sample itineraries and rate sheets: what to publish and what to gate
Buyers want proof that you can write a sellable programme. A sample itinerary does that better than any paragraph of copy. Publish two or three full sample programmes as web pages, not only as PDF downloads, with day by day routing, hotel categories, driving times and what is included at each stop. Google can read a web page and rank it for long searches that a PDF will never win.
Rates are the opposite case. Net rates on a public page are visible to your competitors and to the end travellers your own agents are selling to, and consumer style per person price tags on a DMC site actively undermine you. Keep published pricing out of it and put rate sheets behind an agent login instead. A simple approval flow, where an agent registers with a company name and registration number and you approve access, is enough. That protected area is what our DMC website design page describes as the agent facing tier of the build.
A downloadable company profile PDF still has a job, because procurement teams attach it to internal approvals. Keep it under five megabytes and date it, so nobody circulates a two year old version of your hotel list.
The RFQ form, and how enquiries actually arrive
Speed of quote is the one metric on which DMCs are openly compared. Agents will tell you plainly that they send the same request to four companies and work with whoever comes back first with something usable. A generic Name, Email, Message form guarantees you lose that race, because the first reply you send is a list of questions.
Build the quote request around the fields you need to price the job: destination or circuit, travel dates or month, number of pax and rooming split, hotel category, meal plan, FIT or GIT, budget band, and the agent's country and company name. It is a longer form than a consumer would tolerate, and that is fine. A trade buyer filling it in is doing work they would otherwise do in an email, and a longer form here reduces the total number of messages by several.
Deliver it to two places at once. Email is where the buying office expects the paper trail, and WhatsApp is where your operations team reacts within the hour. Indian DMCs handling Gulf and subcontinent agents run most of the follow up on WhatsApp anyway, and the setup for that is covered in WhatsApp booking on a travel website. For a European or North American buyer, keep email primary and state your working hours in IST alongside a GMT offset so nobody guesses when you are reachable.
Technical requirements that a B2B site cannot skip
A DMC site gets loaded from London, Frankfurt, Dubai and Sydney, not only from a phone in Ahmedabad. A WordPress install on a cheap shared server in one Indian data centre can take five or six seconds to render for a buyer in Europe, and the buyer who waited that long has already opened your competitor in another tab.
Serve the site from a content delivery network so the pages load close to the buyer. Compress every image, because most DMC sites are dragged down by uncompressed destination photography. Keep the itinerary and destination content as real page text so it can be indexed and translated by the browser. If you sell into more than one source market, plan for a language variant per market rather than one page trying to speak to everyone, and display currency in the buyer's terms even if you settle in USD or INR.
Mobile still matters in B2B, more than most DMC owners expect. Agents check suppliers on a phone between client calls and at trade shows. The destination list, the credentials and the contact numbers all have to be readable and tappable on a small screen. The wider build list is in our tour operator website checklist, and the systems side of larger operations sits on the tour operator website development page.
What kills trust on a DMC website
These are the problems we see most often when a DMC asks us to look at a site that is getting traffic but very few trade enquiries. Each one is small on its own. Together they read as a company that is not quite established.
- Stock photos of destinations you do not operate, which an experienced buyer recognises instantly.
- Per person consumer prices on the site, which tell an agent you compete with them for the same customer.
- A contact page with only a form and a Gmail address, and no registered office.
- Testimonials from travellers instead of from operators and agents.
- Destinations listed in a single paragraph, so nothing ranks and nothing looks owned.
- A copyright line that still says 2019, which suggests the business may not be active.
- Claimed association memberships with no number, which fail the first verification attempt.
What a DMC website costs, and getting one built
Our prices are published rather than quoted after a discovery call. Reskinning one of our ready made designs with your brand and content is Rs 6,000. An original build starts at Rs 10,000 for a focused four to five page site, Rs 20,000 for a seven to eight page site with a page per destination and a blog, and Rs 40,000 where a protected agent area or a custom quote flow is needed. Hosting, domain, SSL and support afterwards are Rs 4,000 per year. Everything is listed on the services and pricing page, and the wider market picture is in what a travel agency website costs in India.
Most DMCs land on the middle tier, because the destination pages are the part that does the selling and each one needs to stand alone. The agent login usually comes later, once there are enough registered agents to justify managing access.
AlphaX Dezignerz Studio is a travel focused web design studio in Ahmedabad. We only work in travel, so you will not spend the first two calls explaining what a rooming list is or why FIT and GIT pages need different layouts. You can see live work in our portfolio and the full B2B offer on the DMC website design page.
Send us your current site link on WhatsApp at +91 7383552512 or call 7383552512. We will tell you which of the checks above your site currently fails and what it would take to fix. Prefer email? Use the contact page.
Frequently asked questions
- How is a DMC website different from a travel agency website?
- The visitor is a trade buyer, not a holidaymaker, so the site leads with destinations handled, ground services owned, credentials and quote turnaround instead of photos and per person prices. Consumer style pricing on a DMC site usually costs you agents, because it signals that you sell to their customers directly.
- Should a DMC show prices on its website?
- No public net rates. Publish sample itineraries that show how you build a programme, and keep rate sheets behind an agent login where you approve who gets access. Your website should sell capability and quote speed, and the numbers should go to a named buyer in a quote.
- Do I need an agent login or a B2B portal?
- Only when you have enough registered agents for it to save work. A login protected area for rate sheets, sample itineraries and updated inventory sits in our Rs 40,000 tier. Many DMCs start with a strong public site plus a structured quote form and add the portal in the second year.
- What should a DMC quote request form ask for?
- Destination or circuit, travel dates, pax count with rooming split, hotel category, meal plan, FIT or GIT, budget band, and the agent's company name and country. Deliver it to email and WhatsApp together so the operations team can respond the same day.
- Does a DMC website need to load fast for overseas visitors?
- Yes. Your buyers are in Europe, the Gulf, North America and Australia, and a site hosted on a single Indian shared server can take several seconds to appear for them. Serving the site from a content delivery network and compressing images is the cheapest improvement most DMC sites can make.
